About
The mission of the Region 3 Fire Training Council includes providing regional fire service providers and responders access to training and education in the fire protection industry’s latest technologies and best practices by the presentation of an annual training symposium.
Region 3 Fire Training Council began in 1995 as a fire investigation task force. In 1999 the Council transformed its focus from just fire investigation to include fire service training, public fire & life safety education, and prevention. In the later 2000s it further transformed into a singular focus on fire service training.
Today, the Region 3 Fire Council is a private, non-profit organization of a few dedicated individuals working hard to bring stellar training opportunities to the region.
The first Symposium was presented as a conference in January 2005 on the campus of Skagit Valley College. Over the years the Council’s efforts have been further transformed into focusing solely on this annual Fire Rescue Symposium. It continues to be held in cooperation with the Skagit Valley College Fire Science Department on its campus in Mount Vernon, WA.
The 2025 Symposium will mark the Council’s eighteenth, only interrupted by COVID. Its slate of presenters will continue to change and improve as it has over the years, bringing the best possible and most current training opportunities for its attendees.
The Region 3 Fire Council continues to be on the lookout for new members to assist in planning and presenting its annual Symposium. If you are a training or chief officer in the region that would like to help ensure the future of the Symposium, please contact Assistant Chief Justin Iverson at jiverson@wcfd7.org to offer your services. Meetings are held monthly to bi-weekly and attendance is in-person or on-line
